英 文 科

This year we introduced Shared Writing as part of our J.3 to J.6 Fun English classes. At the beginning of the term, Ms Queenie Mui (our AT) and Miss Alison (NET) hosted a Shared Writing workshop for all English teachers.

Each year level decided to use the third English reader as their initial input, to form the basis of the writing project. The teachers had the option of choosing to do group, pair or individual writing. This and the text type were decided by NETs and LETs in co-planning meetings.

Shared Writing proved to be successful in all year levels. The children enjoyed writing their pieces and they were able to learn and use new skills. Students had opportunities to practise self correction and peer correction. After the first draft, the NET and LET identified common mistakes and wrote them on the board. The whole class fixed the mistakes together, then tried to identify mistakes in their own writing. After the second draft, the children employed peer editing to identify any remaining errors. They were given a list of between three and five editing symbols to identify their peers’ mistakes.

Students’ final pieces were displayed outside their classrooms and it was encouraging to see the children take pride in their work.
